The Supreme Council of Health(SCH) continues its anti-smoking campaign in commercial centres through the Smoking Control Unit. The Campaign aims at raising awareness among the public of the dangers of this habit.
The SCH explained that the total number of the recently reported violations was 669 during 415 inspector visits.
Dr. Shaikha Abu Shaikha, head of the non-communicable diseases emphasized that they are keen to educate the public with the dangers of negative smoking which adversely affects children and pregnant women, in particular, and the non smokers, in general. The SCH will organize a workshop for the primary school nurses as a sample that will demonstrate the dangers of negative smoking, in addition to sending an awareness message to the students. She said that the number of volunteer inspectors has now increased to 9 persons.
Dr. Shaikha pointed out that the Public Health Department aims at continuing this campaign throughout the year to protect the Qatari public against the evils of negative smoking.
